Good to know

Is a medical referral necessary in order to receive consultation?

No. Since 1992, physiotherapists have been granted direct access, which is to say that no medical referral is required for consultation. During the assessment, your physiotherapist may nonetheless refer you back to your doctor should your condition require it.

However, please note that certain insurance companies might demand a referral from a medical professional as a prerequisite for treatment reimbursement. It is therefore the client’s responsibility to check with his or her own insurer for the procedures to follow.

What is the duration of a clinical treatment?

During your first appointment, your physiotherapist will assess your physical condition in order to then determine the best treatment plan. This assessment takes 60 to 90 minutes (including a first treatment).

Treatment duration is approximately 30 to 60 minutes.

What attire is appropriate?

It is recommended that you dress comfortably in loose-fitting garments allowing for free movement of the areas of your body that need to be assessed and treated. We recommend wearing a “camisole” for upper body injuries, and short pants for lower body injuries.

Please note that we can provide you with appropriate attire.

What documents must be provided during the first encounter?

At the time of your first appointment, you will be required to provide us with your medical referral, if applicable, as well as any other documents that could possibly help us assess your condition (magnetic resonance, x-rays, etc.).

If you are consulting due to a work-related injury (CSST), you will be required to provide relevant documents filled out by your employer.

Is a given therapist recognized?

All our therapists are members of their professional orders or associations.

Will group insurance reimburse treatment fees?

Most group or private insurance policies will refund treatment fees.

You will be required to pay following each visit (Visa, Master Card, Interac, cheques and cash are accepted). You will then be provided with a receipt. Following this, you will need to provide your insurer with the receipt and medical referral if applicable, in order to be refunded according to the terms of your insurance coverage.

Is it possible to resume activities following physiotherapy treatment?

Most patients can return home and resume their daily activities, keeping in mind the guidelines provided to them by their therapists. It is possible that a therapist will recommend exercises to be performed at home.
