- Anyone recovering from a recent wrist, hand or finger injury or surgery.
- Anyone experiencing hand pain, difficulty moving their fingers, loss of strength, or numbness in the hand or wrist.
To maximize the success of your treatment and your recovery, it is recommended to consult a hand therapist as soon as possible following a hand or wrist injury or surgery, quicky after the onset of pain, or as soon as your doctor recommends occupational therapy with hand expertise.
What are the signs that you should consult a hand therapist?
- You have suffered a hand or wrist trauma or sports injury (such as finger crush injury, finger or wrist sprain, finger dislocation, or fracture of the hand or wrist)
- You notice finger deformities (mallet finger, boutonniere deformity, swan neck deformity)
- You experience pain or swelling in your hands during movement due to osteoarthritis or other conditions
- You’ve undergone hand surgery or wrist surgery (fracture, tendon repair [tenorrhaphy], ligament reconstruction, amputation, any trauma to the hand or wrist, carpal tunnel release, Dupuytren’s contracture, etc.)
